VICTORIA CLUB   -   RIVERSIDE, CA

Golf Course Superintendent   -   February 2015–July 2016

Opened in 1903 making it one of the oldest courses in Southern California. The premier club in Riverside with original poa push up greens. Bermuda Tees, Fairways and roughs with Fall Rye overseeding. Opened year round  with 20,000 rounds. The club has hosted USGA open and amateur qualifier’s in it’s 112 year history.

 

Created agronomic plan to provided championship conditions daily while remaining under budget.

Re-structured the maintenance staff by hiring, firing and training employees on different responsibilities.


Managed several construction projects from proposal to completion including XGD drainage on greens, re-grassing collars with a different species of turf.

Implemented successful acid injection system program to leach greens from high salts and bicarbonates in irrigation water.

 

Amended the fairway topdressing program to improve playability and soil profile.

CHARTIERS COUNTRY CLUB   -   PITTSBURGH, PA

First Assistant Superintendent   -   October 2010–February 2015

18-hole private club designed by Willie Park and opened in 1924, with a new master plan implementd in the 1990’s by Arthur Hills. The club is one of the premier clubs in the Pittsburgh area and features 20,000 annual rounds. The course has undergone recent improvement with green surrounds resodding and installation of irrigation improvements.  The greens and fairways are Poa/Bent with Bent tees.

 

Actively managed and scheduled the entire staff of up to 25 motivated employees to meet member demands for course set-up and conditioning.

 

Integral in working with the superintendent on budgeting and ordering (early and day-day operations).

 

Offered insight and expertise to successfully improving playability through water management, reducing mowing heights, grooming, topdressing and reducing turf stresses.

 

Directly involved with member communications; participate in Committee/Grounds Meeting and the writing of member newsletters/updates.

 

Oversaw several key construction projects, including XGD Greens Drainage on 12 greens, resodding of all 18 green surrounds, installation of numerous irrigation improvements such as new heads and couplers, upgrade to new irrigation software, and leveling and resurfacing of the driving range tees.

 

Assisted with implementing fairway topdressing program to improve poor soil and overall turf quality.

 

Led operation to introduce additional high-grass (fine fescue) areas to reduce mowing and maintenance costs.

DOUBLE EAGLE CLUB   -   GALENA, OH

Second Assistant, Spray Tech   -   March 2009–October 2010

 

18-hole private club designed by Jay Morrish/Tom Weiskopf and opened in 1992. The club is considered one of the best in the country and is currently ranked #64 in the United States. It features Bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways.

 

Assisted with all aspects of the operation, including direct management of chemical/fertilizer applications.

 

Participated in practices to suppress and/or eradicate Poa in Bentgrass greens.

 

Involved with installation of practice fairway, fairway expansion sod, and bunker and tee construction.

 

Gained knowledge in the proper maintenance of stream and lake edges to ensure environmental safety.

NEW SOUTH WALES GOLF CLUB   -   AUSTRALIA

Grounds Staff   -   December 2008–March 2009

 

18-hole private club designed by Alister Mackenzie and opened in 1926. The club is recognized as the #1 course in Australia and among the Top 50 in the world (#9 oustide US). It has hosted the Australian Open and is an exclusive

 coastal course with Poa/Bent greens and all other surfaces consisting of Bermudagrass.

 

Gained extensive knowledge in coastal management practices, particularly salt-related issues; experience with warm-season grass species.

 

Assisted in the construction 15 Re-vetted bunkers.  (St Andrews style)

 

Performed preparations for Australian Open, including squaring tee surfaces before event.

OAKMONT COUNTRY CLUB OAKMONT, PA

International Intern   -   March 2008–November 2008

18-hole private club designed by Henry Fownes and opened in 1903. The club is ranked #3 in the United States and in the Top 10 in the world. It has hosted 18 major championships, including 8 US Opens. It is a links-style course with some of the most challenging greens in the world. 

Applied a unique water management program, involving hand-watering of all surfaces, to the point of optimum dry condition for perfect playability, and trained other employees in these techniques.

 

Participated in USGA changes for US Ladies Open, Construction of addition tees and fairway expansions.

 

Learned of new elite renovation cultural practices such as Hydro-Jet, Graden and Drill and Fill.

 

Performed daily US Open Championship conditioning. (triple-cutting and double-rolling)

 KIRTLAND COUNTRY CLUB   -   WILLOUGHBY, OH

 International Intern   -   June 2007–January 2008

 

18-hole private club designed by C.H. Alison and opened in 1921. The premier club in the Cleveland area, it is a Top 100 club in the US and Top 10 in Ohio with 20,000 annual rounds. It features Bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways.

 

Took part in extensive restoration that included the renovation of all bunkering, tee additions, and the reclamation of green surface.

BONNIE DOON GOLF CLUB   -   AUSTRALIA

Assistant-in-Training, Spray Tech   -   July 2006–June 2007

 

18-hole private club on the Sydney Sand Belt. Considered one of the Top 5 courses in Sydney, it hosts 50,000 annual  rounds and has Bentgrass greens in a warm-season climate.

 

 

 

WALLACIA GOLF CLUB   -   AUSTRALIA

Intern, Apprentice   -   November 2002–July 2006

 

18-hole public facility in an extremely warm climate region of Australia. The club was undergoing a complete master plan reconstruction at the time of employment. It features Poa greens, new G2 Bentgrass greens, and Bermuda on all other playing surfaces.

THE LOS ANGELESE COUNTRY CLUB   -   LOS ANGELES, CA

Golf Course Superintendent   -   July 2016–Present

Opened in 1911 with 36 holes. Most known for the North Course which is ranked at #26 in Golf Digest top 100 course and the host to the 2017 Walker Cup and 2023 US Open championships. In 2016 the south course underwent a reconstruction with full redesign by Gil Hanse which is now open for the members.

 

Efficiently lead the operation to provide consistent, world-class conditioning for a demanding membership.

 

Managed the grow-in on new 007/tyee Bent grass usga spec greens, T2 bermuda tee and fairways, Tall/Fine fescue bunkers and native areas with fine fescue and native shrubs/grasses.

 

Daily communication with Golf Pro and General Manager on course conditions and tournament scheduling; attends and presents reports at committee and executive staff meetings.
